Lemon was one of the shortlisted studios to pitch for the identity design of the forthcoming Nalanda International University, a revival of its namesake ancient institute.
The first identity is an inspiration from Brahmi letterforms, the oldest writing system known in the Indian subcontinent from which most of today’s Indian scripts are believed to have evolved. Brahmi was in use during the time of the ancient Nalanda University, a world-famous Buddhist center of learning from the fifth century CE to 1197 CE.
The second is a form depicting the terrain with remnants of the old university’s structure. The new campus will be built near the same site.
